FAQS
Q: WHY DID COTY CHOOSE THE LEAPING BUNNY APPROVAL BY CRUELTY FREE INTERNATIONAL FOR COVERGIRL?
A: The Leaping Bunny approval is considered a global gold standard for cruelty free cosmetics and personal care products. It is the only international programme that requires: (i) a supplier monitoring system to be implemented by the brand, (ii) checks for animal testing down to ingredient manufacturer level of the supply chains, (iii) adherence to a fixed cut-off date and (iv) regular independent supply chain audits to ensure compliance.
Q: WHY DID COTY CHOOSE TO PURSUE LEAPING BUNNY APPROVAL BY CRUELTY FREE INTERNATIONAL FOR COVERGIRL?
A: We started our Leaping Bunny journey with COVERGIRL, Coty’s largest makeup brand, to demonstrate our commitment to this issue and prove that achieving such an ambitious and rigorous approval can be done at scale. CoverGirl was one of the first mass brands globally to achieve leaping Bunny approval. This is a positive step forward as more people can afford, find and enjoy beautiful makeup products with the assurance that they are cruelty free.
Q: What else is Coty doing to end animal testing?
A: We firmly believe that animals should not be used to ensure product safety and that the testing of products and their ingredients on animals has no place in the beauty industry. For more than 25 years, our parent company, Coty has been developing methods that provide a clear alternative to animal testing. Globally, Coty also uses its role in industry associations to engage with stakeholders, share knowledge, build a community of understanding around alternatives, promote the adoption of alternate methods, and advocate for regulatory change.
Q: What about the issue of China and the requirements it has for animal testing?
A: COVERGIRL is not sold in China. However, earlier in 2021, Chinese authorities implemented a waiver of the animal tests that had previously been mandatory for exports of non-special use cosmetics to China. The changes include requirements that companies produce a certificate conforming to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and a product safety assessment issued by authorities in their home country and acceptable to Chinese regulators. Mandatory pre-market animal testing for non-special use cosmetics manufactured in China was removed in 2014.
Q: IS COVERGIRL ALSO APPROVED BY PETA? HOW DOES LEAPING BUNNY APPROVAL BY CRUELTY FREE INTERNATIONAL DIFFER FROM PETA?
A: Leaping Bunny approval is a separate cruelty free programme, unrelated to PETA. However, like PETA, Cruelty Free International is a global advocacy group that campaigns for the protection of animals, specifically for the abolition of animal experiments. The Leaping Bunny approval by Cruelty Free International is considered the international gold standard for products that are free from animal testing. Specifically, the approval is the most comprehensive global cruelty free standard because it requires a supplier monitoring system to be implemented by the brand, checks for animal testing down to ingredient manufacturer level of the supply chain, adherence to a fixed cut-off date and regular independent supply chain audits to ensure compliance.
Q: WHY DID COVERGIRL CHOOSE TO BE CRUELTY FREE?
A: Our purpose and vision is to enable all people to freely express themselves through the beauty products we create. A critical part of self-expression is offering ethical beauty products that are in line with our brand values and the values of our consumers. We believe harmless beauty should be accessible and it is our responsibility as an iconic, mainstream brand to make cruelty free beauty available for all.
Q:What’s the difference between vegan and cruelty-free?
A:The term ‘cruelty free’ has a long association with animal testing, and is it clear that this is what the Leaping Bunny logo represents. For Coty, vegan means the product formula is designed, developed and commercialized without any animal products, animal by-products or animal derivates.
Q:How can I keep my foundation from settling into wrinkles?
A:First off, moisturize. Creating a well-hydrated base for your foundation is important to help prevent your makeup from settling into wrinkles and fine lines. Once you’ve applied your makeup, you can also try the damp sponge trick. Use a damp makeup sponge to gently apply pressure everywhere you’ve applied foundation to remove excess makeup and help create a natural look.
Q:Is liquid or powder foundation better for aging skin?
A:While there are benefits to both liquid and powder foundation, many experts recommend using a liquid foundation as it slides on more smoothly and avoids settling into fine lines and wrinkles. However, the choice is ultimately up to you!
Q:What is the best way to apply makeup on mature skin?
A:When it comes to applying makeup, the only rule we have here at COVERGIRL is to have fun. Just because you’re working with mature skin doesn’t mean you have to hold back on bold color and experimental makeup looks! If you’re concerned about the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, create a solid base for the rest of your makeup look with an age-defying foundation and develop a top-notch skincare routine to make sure your skin is always moisturized.
Q:What ingredients help support anti-aging?
A:When you’re looking at the ingredient lists of our Simply Ageless products, you’ll see a few key ingredients in common. Glycerin is key for moisturization and is included in every product in the collection. Hyaluronic acid and vitamin C are two ingredients that help refresh and even out skin tone for youthful, healthy-looking skin. Vitamin B3 (niacinamide) helps moisturize and brighten and vitamin B5 (panthenol) helps hydrate and smooth. Vitamins A and E, argan oil, and coconut oil are key ingredients for moisture and hydration.
Q:Does vitamin C have anti-aging properties?
A:Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant ingredient, which means it helps neutralize damaging free radicals that come from stressors like sun exposure. Vitamin C also helps support collagen production, which helps support healthy skin and prevent premature aging.
